The Birth Of The Francois Swart Centenary Tournament

 

Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies) has announced that although Carinat Marketing has cancelled the World School Festival they will be going ahead with their own rugby festival during the period that was earmarked for the World School Festival. The annual u/15 Francois Swart Week will be combined with a first XV centenary festival and called the Francois Swart Centenary Tournament

All nine South African schools that formed part of the line-up at the World School Festival will attend the Francois Swart Centenary Tournament to be hosted over the period 23 March - 28 March 2020. These schools are Grey College, Hilton College, KES, Maritzburg College, Monnas, Oakdale, Paul Roos, Pretoria Boys High and SACS.

Francois (Swys) Swart attended Affies from 1996 to 2000. The Francois Swart Week week started in 2004 after Francois tragically died in a motor accident that ended his future as a rugby player. Francois played 53 matches for Affies' 1stXV of which 51 was with Fourie du Preez as his scrumhalf. In the 2000 season, he scored the third-most points, 283 of any 1stXV player. In his three years, 1998 - 2000 he scored a total of 447 points, the second-most in the history of the school.
