Stormers head coach John Dobson revealed his assistant coaches will also get an opportunity to run the team’s training sessions through the ‘Preperation’ campaign although he will still take responsibility for the performances on the field.
Forward coach Rito Hlungwani will take over the role of coach for their match against Griquas in Kimberley next Tuesday, March 9.
Stormers skills coach Labeeb Levy will be "head coach" for the match against the Bulls on 19 March 2021 while backline coach Dawie Snyman will be given similar opportunities against the Lions on 27 March 2021.
Dobson explained, “As much as we want to build depth and opportunities for our players, the same applies to the coaching staff, we want to create opportunities for them and develop these coaches.”
“I just think as a head coach there are certain things that assistant coaches aren’t exposed to – whether that’s selecting or dropping a player, signing off on a training session, speaking to the team and setting the week’s themes.
“It’s not something we can ordinarily do in a normal competition. As you know, this is a preparation series and there is no log or trophy. But there is still a lot of pressure, to perform and compete which is a good thing,”
