The second day of the STadio U18 Craven Week was full of action with many tries scored while their defence was not of a high quality.
Blue Bulls 35-34 Golden Lions
The Blue Bulls secured a narrow victory over the Golden Lions. The highly anticipated trans-Jukskei derby on Tuesday lived up to the hype, with the hosts and the Bulls scoring 10 tries between them.
The Lions were in control for much of the first half, before the Bulls hit back to score 20 unanswered points in the second stanza and did enough in the dying stages to clinch a thrilling 35-34 win. Replacement Luann Olivier scored two of the Bulls’ six tries.
Scorers:
Blue Bulls: Tries: Luann Olivier (3), Hendré Schoeman, Leskin Samuels, Junade Pasensie. Conversion: Ruben Pienaar. Penalty: Ruben Pienaar.
Golden Lions: Tries: Andre Poulton, Mcmillen Mongwana, Khuti Rasivhaga (2). Conversions: Simphiwe Moyo (4). Penalties: Simphiwe Moyo (2).
Free State Cheetahs 57-36 Griffons
It was a great and exciting match by two very talented teams, however, one had the feeling that the Cheetahs scored when they decided to. The Cheetahs led 26-17 at the halftime break and eventually outscored the Griffons with nine tries to six. Unfortunately, if two teams score 93 points in seventy minutes one must question the commitment of the defence of both teams.
Scorers:
Free State Cheetahs: Tries: Liam Van Wyk, Kutlwano Tukulu, Kwanda Tokwe, Donelle Hendriks, Pieter Van Der Merwe, Heinz Stokenstrom (2), Ethan Adams, Pretorius Ekeji. Conversions: Heinz Stokenstrom (6).
Griffons: Tries: Buhle Mgxabayi, Cecil Parsons, Dawie Fourie, Dyllan Kemp, Rewaldo Farmer, Jayden Weideman Conversions: Leano Williams, Rorisang Marumo (2).
Pumas 60-17 Limpopo Bulls
Unfortunately, this match was a runaway win for the Pumas who led 22-00 at the halftime break.
Scorers:
Pumas: Tries: Prosper Chiloane (2), Bakkies Bezuidenhout, Ryan Erasmus, Vaughn Van Zyl, Ian Wood (3). Conversions: Mattew Abbey (5). Penalties: Mattew Abbey.
Limpopo Bulls: Tries: Aza Mabe (2). Conversions: Byron Hendricks (2). Penalty: Byron Hendricks.
Western Province XV 52-17 Griquas
The first half was "even" and the WPXv led 14-08 at the halftime break. Unfortunately for the boys from the Nothern Cape, and admittingly one or two tries against the run of play helped, WP XV scored six tries to the one of Griquas to cruise to a 52-17 win.
Scorers:
Western Province XV: Tries: Altus Rabe, Ikhona Maxegwana, Briint Davids, Markus Muller (2), Aiden Jacobs, Sango Zangqa, Ashwin Swarts. Conversions: David Simon (6).
Griquas: Tries: F.j De Vries, Ethan Van Zyl. Conversions: Sylvester Hoffman (2). Penalties: Sylvester Hoffman (2).
