The third and final day of the St Stithians Easter Rugby Festival takes place today (Monday 18). Steady rainfall throughout most of Saturday, the second day of the festival, made play difficult with the slippery ball and affected the running rugby seen on the first day.
Despite the weather, however, Saturday’s excellent turnout of spectators was entertained by some exciting play from the six mostly evenly contested fixtures.
09h15 Wynberg (91,945) vs Clifton (74,878)
Wynberg should win with ease and travel home to Cae Town satisfied with a successful festival, losing only against St Andrew's with one point in a match that could have gone either way.
10h30 Bishops (98,484) vs Parktown (82,788)
Unfortunately, another one-sided match that can only go one way.
11h45 Grey High School (92,908) vs Maritzburg College (87,974)
Grey High recovered well after their loss to the all-conquering Bishops and won against St Alban's in testing conditions with 34-19, whereas, lost to Bishops on Saturday (10-31) in a brave effort showing a lot of guts.
One would like to give Maritzburg College a glimmer of hope, however, it should be the boys of Grey High School travelling back to Gqeberha with a smile on their faces.
13h00 St Alban's (77,163) vs Michaelhouse (87,653)
Unfortunately for St Alban's, they will face a Michaelhouse that is really on fire in 2022. Michaelhouse is still unbeaten and should be too much for the brave boys from St Alban's who will fight until the last minute.
14h15 St Stithians (81,766) vs St Andrew's (93,030)
Although the crowd will be supporting the hosts' St Andrew's who is still unbeaten should win with relative ease. Passion and guts can unfortunately only carry one that far.
