The fifth match of the 2020 School Sports Live festival between Garsfontein and Durban High School at the 2018 Grey Rugby Festival will be screened "live" this afternoon at 14h00. You can follow the action on Ruggas.co.za SSL channel.
DHS came into this game with only two losses after eight games having lost their first game of the 2019 Grey Rugby Festival against St Andrew's (15-31). Garsfontein lost three games already that 2018 season after they played ten games. They lost to Transvalia (31-48), Grey College (31-43) and Monnas (31-68).
Half time score was 19-12 with Garsfontein in the lead, but they hung on at the end to win by three with Keagan Johannes deserving the man of the match award.
Unfortunately, I could not get hold of team sheets for the match BUT... Garsfontein had 13 players selected to the Blue Bulls Teams. Reynhard Roets, Johandre Buitendag, Diego Apollis, Jayden Visagie, Campwill Willemse, Braillon Brand and Jurich Claassen all selected to the Blue Bulls u/18 Craven Week Squad while Aldo Landsberg, Jaryd Scheepers, Dillon Olckers and Ricardo Botha were selected for the u/18 Academy Squad. Jurich Claassens was also selected for the SA Schools squad that year.
DHS was also not to be outdone and had 10 of their players selected for the Sharks u/18 teams. M Gumede, A Mnguni, C Gumede, and L Menze was selected in the Sharks Craven Week squad, while M Nel, S Steenekamp, T Kruger, J Cedares, S La Douce and M Jenner was selected for the Sharks Academy Week Squad. Celimpilo Gumede was selected for the SA Schools squad later that year.
Boys from both teams are currently starting to future in their Unions senior ranks.
