Springbok Women’s World Cup Dreams Ended By Physical Fiji Women

The Springbok Women needed a win against Fiji Women, and preferable with a bonus point to stay in the hunt for a top-eight position in the Rugby World Cup. Unfortunately for the Springbok Women, the Fiji Women played a direct and aggressive game plan to win 21-17.

The Fiji Women came out in the first half like a house on fire. Fiji Women's hard running backs were forcing several cracks in the defence of the Springbok Women and were unlucky to score just one try during the first quarter.

The Springbok Women fought their way back into the match against a seemingly tiring Fiji Women. The try by the Springbok Women was well deserved and things were looking good for the second half, however, the Fiji Women struck back immediately with a try of their own to end the first half 14-07 in the lead.

The Fiji Women continued their dominance throughout the third quarter, however, five minutes of great rugby saw Aseza Hele scoring the equaliser to go into the final twenty minutes even with 14-14.

The Springbok Women tried their utmost and almost stole the game from Fiji Women with a converted penalty, however, the Fiji Women swarmed the Springbok Women from the kickoff and bulldozed their way to a match-saving try to win 21-17.
