One must accept that all "ratings" is a personal opinion. Several players did not get sufficient opportunities or just can not expect to get opportunities as the game plan does not suit their strengths.
Willie Le Roux (6/10)
Hot and cold during the match, however, his best for the Springboks this year. Personally, I think it is time that the exciting Aphelele Fassi gets an opportunity
14 Cheslin Kolbe (3/10)
Again he was targeted and again he failed to make any impact.
13 Lukhanyo Am (7.5/10)
Another class performance with an incredible work rate.
12 Damian de Allende. (7/10)
Not successful as a ball carrier but his work rate on defence was impressive.
11 Makazole Mapimpi (7/10)
Although Mapimpi showed a willingness on the attack and defence he did concede several penalties at crucial stages.
10 Handre Pollard (8/10)
Directing the Springbok orchestra with distinction but did not live up to his normal standards with the kicking at goal. He is definately the best flyhalf in South Africa with Pollard catching up fast.
9 Faf de Klerk (6.5/10)
A moment of brilliance does not warrant good marks. He is still more interested in becoming superman rather than be a super scrumhalf. Not always where a scrumhalf must be on the field but definately better than last weekend.
8 Jasper Wiese (7/10)
A great display by the number 8. Apart from one penalty a faultless display on defence. Hopefully, he will be given time to grow into the Springbok number 8.
7 Pieter-Steph du Toit (6/10)
Did what was expected on the defence with little to no chances on attack. His injury showed up shortcomings of the replacement bench, no replacement for a 3rd lineout option.
6 Siyamthanda Kolisi (9/10)
His best test ever in the Springbok jersey, however, I am still not convinced of his captaincy. He could become a Springbok legend without the burden of the captaincy.
5 Franco Mostert (6/10)
Definately not the solution in the starting lineup, however, again was all over the field making a nuisance of himself. Losing lineouts did his rating no favour. Do think he'll be a brilliant #7 coming on in the last 20 minutes of a match.
4 Eben Etzebeth (9/10)
Again the best Springbok on the field. His physical presence definately gave the Sprinboks the edge with his lineout work in the front simply brilliant.
3 Frans Malherbe (7.5/10)
Confirmed that he is no impact player and did more than his share in the defence. The surface of the Cape Town Stadium made scrumming very difficult and unpredictable.
2 Mbongeni Mbonambi (8/10)
Again proved his worth in doing what is expected from a hooker. Great come lineout time and a strong scrummer. A few mishaps in general play but his physicality made up for it.
1 Steven Kitshoff (7/10)
Another solid performance from Kitshoff. Did what was expected from him and a little bit more.
Replacements:
16 Malcolm Marx (7/10)
A much better showing than last weekend’s performance. The pace of the game and action suited his style of play, allowing him to compete for the ball on the ground on the front foot.
17 Trevor Nyakane (8/10)
An absolute brilliant performance with his impact being immediate and incredible.
18 Vincent Koch (6/10)
Did what was expected from him.
19 Lodewyk de Jager (8/10)
Showed that he was ready to replace Mostert in the string lineup. Physical in defence and the attack.
20 Marco Van Staden
Not enough time to be rated
21 Albertus Smith (7.5/10)
Put in a solid performance stealing and slowing down balls as is expected from a #6. He did concede a couple of penalties which is to be expected from a proper #6.
22 Herschel Jantjies & 23 Damian Willemse (6.5/10)
Both players did exactly what was expected from them at that stage of the match.
