The Springboks travelled to Italy after their two losses against Ireland and France desperately looking for their first win in the Castle Lager Outgoing Series. The match was still in the balance with 20 minutes to go, however, the Springboks scored five tries to the one of Italy to win 63-21.
The Springboks started like a house on fire to score the first try of the match, however, the match settled early with both teams earning scoring opportunities throughout the first quarter. Italy opted to convert three penalties that gave them a 13-08 lead going into the second quarter.
The second quarter was once again a fairly even period, however, the Springboks' forwards did start to dominate while Italy did enjoy the territorial advantage. A try and converted penalty restored the Springboks' early lead as they go into the second half with an 18-13 lead.
The Springboks started to dominate after the "Bomb-squad was introduced. Two tries gave the Springboks a 42-16 lead and twenty minutes to go.
Three brilliant tries by the Springboks underlined their brilliance in the fourth quarter and although Italy also scored a try it was a show by the Springboks Italy will not easily forget.
