The Cell C Sharks Women ensured they will remain in the Women’s Premier Division next season when they beat the Mastercard Golden Lions Women by 27-0 in their promotion-relegation match in Durban on Saturday.
The hosts were in control for almost the entire match and scored five tries without answer from the Gautengers.
It was clear that the Cell C Sharks Women were better prepared for knock-out rugby after slogging it through two rounds of Women’s Premier Division action, even if they only won one of their 10 pool matches.
On the contrary, the Mastercard Golden Lions Women – who successfully defended their Women’s First Division crown last weekend – were only playing their fifth competitive match of the season, after one of their pool clashes was cancelled earlier in the season.
Scorers:
Cell C Sharks Women 27 (17) – Tries: Micke Gunter, Karthy Dludla, Mpumie Mathe, Mbali Bukhosini, Megan Comley. Conversion: Mary Zulu.
