After Sean matriculated in 1995 at Estcourt High School he started coaching at his alma mater during 1996 and 1997. After a serious rugby injury he started coaching at Grosvenor Boys High to earn some money until he was declared fit to resume his rugby career.
"Luckily" this injury ended his career as player and started his career as coach. He was appointed at Glenwood High School in 2001 and started earning his stripes as a coach. After coaching all age groups from u/12 Sean was appointed as the coach of Glenwood's 1stXV in 2007.
Not only was Sean Erasmus the Director of Rugby at Glenwood High but he wasappointed the Assistant KZN Craven Week Coach in 2011, as well as The Sharks U19 forwards coach in 2009 and 2010 to cap it off he coached at The Sharks academy as well. A busy schedule but one that Sean enjoyed.
Coaching at the Sharks Academy ment that he learned something new every single day. He found it amazing to learn and gain experience in the company of some really good coaches that have coached at the top level such as Swys De Bruyn, Ettiene Fynn,Deon Kayser. Being involved with The Sharks U19 and the Academy put him in a position to rub shoulders with guys that are legends in coaching.
Being able to tap into some of the most intelligent minds in rugby almost at will has given Sean Erasmus not only invaluable experience but the players under his charge, then at Glenwood had access to some of the most cutting edge rugby coaching that can be found anywhere on the planet.
Coaching of the most successful team in KZN schools, The Sharks U19 forwards coach as well as coaching regularly at The Sharks Academy, Sean Erasmus has been instrumental in shaping the careers for many players that will soon become household names.
Sean was appointed as Paarl Boishaai's 1stXV Head Coach in 2014 and it did not take him long to mould Boishaai into the most successfull team in the school's history during 2015 and 2016. Currently the 1stXV is on a 38 matches unbeaten streak. Paarl Boishaai is also the undisputed schoolboy rugby champions for 2015 and 2016.
In 2016 Sean was appointed as the coach for the South African "A" u/18 team. In 15 years he has gradually climbed the ladder in coaching circles and it is not difficult to believe that Sean could realistically be coaching at the very highest level in the sport in the not too distant future.
"I believe the person needs to be coached before being coached in rugby. Good boys make good rugby players. I prefer surrounding me with people that shares my own values and care about the players. Combining these values with hard work, technical knowledge and commitment ensures a happy team playing for each other with the will and pride to perform."
