The Western Cape schoolboy rugby once again delivered its fair share of drama and surprises this past weekend.
Paarl Boishaai travelled to the Markotter Stadium with a big "X" on their backs as the home team was seen by most as the favourites and felt that Boishaai's number the ranking on the Ruggas.co.za was completely undeserved. However, despite a red card in the 17th minute, to inspirational flanker Divan Fuller, Boishaai manage to increase their lead from 14-00 to 21-05 at the halftime break.
The second half saw both teams scored two tries with Boishaai cementing their third place on the rankings looking forward to the rest of the season with excitement and confidence.
Bishops hosted Wynberg in what must be one of the biggest upsets of the season and travelled back home with a 20-14 win against the unbeaten Bishops. Wynberg is on a five-match winning streak as they added Bishops to a list that includes Boland Landbou.
Boland Landbou had a "close" loss against the highly-rated Paarl Gimnasium with 26-21 while Strand's "run" was ended by a Worcester Gim side that must be one of their bests in recent history. Gim with a well deserved comprehensive 34-19 win.
Most of the other matches had the bigger schools resting some of their 1stXV players as they are required to play schools well below them in the pecking order. Stellenberg was not in a good mood demolishing Tygerberg 88-07 which is definately not for schoolboy rugby and players
