The action in the schoolboy rugby 2024 season is picking up with Grey College sending an early warning to all the "hopefuls" that the king is alive and well.
In the Central Region, everybody's eyes will be on the "New" Diamantveld. Although it will be "unfair" to Oloff Berg and Philip Molnar to expect immediate results the two ex-Boland Landbou's coaches will expect only the best from Diamantveld. They face Voortrekker Bethlehem who had a surprise draw against Louis Botha a week ago.
Grey College already showed a week ago that they are once again brilliant and we will look to see their stars getting more game-time against Welkom Gim.
Noordheuwel has the first opportunity to confirm all the expectations from their "dream team" against Trio who was beaten 38-03 by Grey College a week ago. That scoreline should warn Noordheuwel not to underestimate Trio.
In the Eastern Cape, most of the matches are festival fixtures with shorter than normal match times. Apart from Nico Malan, the other big dogs are still preparing in silence.
In the NoordVaal region, several matches should give us a glimpse of what to expect in 2024.
All eyes will be on Nelspruit where they will host the already high-flying Secunda. Secunda already took Witbank HTS to the cleaners, however, Nelspruit will not be an easy victim, especially at home.
Middelburg vs Eldoraigne should be interesting with all eyes will be on ex Springbok Naas Botha influence on the 1stXV of Eldoraigne. Pietersburg will host Montana in an expected tight and extremely physical match.
The Western Cape are also playing festival rugby with shortened matches, however, we will be giving Drostdy HTS some special attention.
