Garsfontein 36-38 Paarl Boishaai
Paarl Boishaai scored the first try of the match after just 90 seconds of play in the first half to which Garsfontein replied with a converted penalty to trail 03-07 after five minutes of play. Garsfontein continued to apply pressure and scored their first try from the back of a lineout-maul after twelve minutes of play to lead 08-07.
Four minutes later Paarl Boishaai scored a "soft" try with Garsfontein's backline defence showing the Boishaai player where to run. The tit-for-tat scoring continued with Garsfontein scoring yet again with a lineout-maul to retake the lead with 15-14 after twenty minutes of play.
A try by Paarl Boishaai and a converted penalty by Garsfontein gave Paarl Boishaai a 21-18 lead with five minutes to play, which was also the halftime score.
Paarl Boishaai converted an early penalty to extend their lead to six points. However, following a yellow card to Paarl Boishaai Garsfontein used the numerical advance in the pack to maul their way over Boishaai's tryline. Garsfontein led 25-24 after ten minutes of play in the second half.
A quick tap by Garsfein five meters from Paarl Boishaai's tryline caught Paarl Boishaai napping paving the way for Garsfontein to bulldoze their way over the tryline to extend their lead to 28-24 and twenty minutes still to play.
A powerful scrum by Garsfontein earned them three points to extend their lead to 31-24. With six minutes to go, Garsfontein scored in the corner to extend their lead to 36-24. However, Paarl Boishaai struck back immediately with a try under the poles to trial 31-36 with three minutes still to play. Paarl Boishaai threw everything at the defence of Garsfontein and scored the match-winning try to win 38-36.
Jeppe 22-19 Grey College
Grey College showed their class early, scoring a great try, and made it look easy after just four minutes of play, to which Jeppe replied with two converted penalties. Grey College added a second try, however, Jeppe disrupted the momentum of Grey College, who made several handling and judgement errors, keeping Jeppe in the game.
Another converted penalty by Jeppe reduced Grey College's lead to 14-09 with seven minutes to play. Following another penalty conceded by Grey College, Jeppe scored their first try off the back from a driving maul to lead 16-14 going into the second half.
It took Grey College seven minutes to score their third try of the match, despite several mistakes costing Grey several scoring opportunities. Jeppe then levelled the score with a converted penalty after ten minutes of play in the second half.
Grey College is paying the price for their error-ridden game which is costing them another converted penalty with Jeppe again taking a 22-19 lead and twenty minutes to play.
The pressure applied by Jeppe kept the mistakes coming from Grey College and Jeppe kept Grey College from scoring to win 22-19, which must be the biggest upset of the 2024 schoolboy rugby season.
Helpmekaar 22-41 Oakdale
Oakdale used their big forwards to launch attack after attacks on the Helpmekaar tryline and scored their three tries of the first half within the first fourteen minutes, while Helpmekaar scored a try from in intercept to trail 21-05 after fifteen minutes of play.
Helpmekaar started to claw their way back into the game, doing their utmost to rid the game of any structure. A converted penalty by Oakdale extended their lead to 24-05. Helpmekaar set up camp in Oakdale's 22m for the final seven minutes of the match and added a try with time already up on the clock to go into the second half trailing 10-24.
Oakdale converted penalties early in the first half and led 34-10 after ten minutes of play. Helpmekaar replied almost immediately after converting the second penalty, scoring their third try to reduce Oakdale's lead to 34-17. Oakdale struck back immediately with a try of their own.
Helpmekaar scored their third try of the match with three minutes to go to reduce Oakdale's lead to 41-22 which was also the final score.
Nelspruit 20-24 Welkom Gimnasium
Nelspruit dominated the opening minutes of the match and opened their scoring with a converted penalty to lead 03-00 after four minutes of play. Four minutes later Nelspruit added their first try to lead 10-00.
Nelspruit dominated for most of the first half, however, brilliant handling and interplay by Welkom Gimnasium led to a try in the corner, from a movement that started in Welkom Gim's half. Welkom Gim levelled the score (10-10) following a yellow card issued to Nelspruit foor a high tackle.
Welkom Gimnasium opened the scoring in the second half with a brilliant try down the touchline to lead 17-10 afterfive minutes of play, to which Nelspruit replied with a converted penalty. With the defence of both teams "questionable" and the match opening up it was Nelspruit to score their first try of the second half to retake the lead with 20-17.
Despite both teams having several scoring opportunities it was Welkom Gim who scored the first try of the second half after twenty-five minutes of play. Drostdy HTS led 24-20 with ten minutes to play.
Nelspruit decline two opportunities to convert penalties which eventually cost them the match as they lost 20-24.
EG Jansen 44-15 Drostdy HTS
Despite a great start by Drostdy HTS, it was EG Jansen who scored the first try of the match following a great movement that started in their own half. EG Jansen struck almost from the kickoff once again, however, this time in the other corner to lead 10-00 after just eight minutes of play in the first half.
EG Jansen added two more tries to their total before Drostdy HTS scored their first try to trail 27-05 with five minutes to play in the first half. EG Jansen added their sixth try to lead 32-05 going into the second half.
The scrappy second half lasted thirteen minutes before Drostdy HTS scored their second try against a thirteen-man EG Jansen to reduce EG Jansen's lead to 32-10. Back to fifteen players EG Jansen took control of the match again and added two tries before Drostdy HTS added their third try to trail 44-15 and five minutes to play, which was also the final score.
