Schoolboy Rugby – Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival 2024 Day Two Preview

If the first day of the 2024 edition of the Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival is anything to go by, fans are in for another crackerjack day of action today.

The opening game pits Hoërskool Noord-Kaap against fellow Day 1 strugglers Nico Malan High School. The former was on the receiving end of a 59-7 drubbing by Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen, while Nico Malan was blanked 0-21 by Durban High School (DHS). Considering the quality of the schools on show, this could be each side’s only chance to bag a win in Botha’s Hill.

In game 2, Westville Boys’ High School, 10-31 losers to Rondebosch Boys’ High on Thursday, face Pearson High School. Pearson didn’t participate on the first day and will be eager to make their mark.

Worcester Gimnasium then faces Hoër Landbouskool Marlow before the fourth match between Hoërskool Rustenburg and Durban High School.

Rustenburg conceded in the dying embers of their Day 1 encounter with Worcester and will be hellbent on bouncing back against what looks to be a serious opponent in DHS. If the boys from the North-West can match the power of the Horseflies and remain patient on the attack, they could spring a surprise, but it will take a mighty effort to bring them down.

Hoërskool Framesby and Monument then take to the field, the latter for what will be the first time this festival. Framesby withstood the challenge of the host school, beating Kearsney by a single point on Day 1, but will be up against an entirely different prospect in a powerful Monnasline-up.

The penultimate game of the day sees Glenwood High School tackle EG Jansen in what should be one of the best matches of the day, with the Green Machine having held off Marlow in their first outing. EG Jansen will prove to be a far sterner test for them here.

Kearsney then takes on Rondebosch in the day’s final affair. It will be a tough ask for the hosts to get their first win against the team that swept Westville aside on the first day.
