According to informed sources, the France U18 team has cancelled its participation in the U18 International Series as the missing player Medhi Narjissi's fate remains uncertain since he was swept away by a wave Wednesday afternoon at Dias Beach, Cape Town.
Instead of competing against hosts South Africa, England and Georgia in the upcoming six-team festival, which begins next Monday, they have opted to return home.
French rugby officials have launched an internal investigation into the incident where the team was busy with a recovery session at Dias Beach, where the players could stand, under the supervision of staff members. Apparently, Medhi was swept away by a wave and strong currents towards the open sea during the group's exit from the water.
Stade Toulousain, Medhi's club, has arranged for Medhi's family to travel to South Africa, with a member of the national technical management accompanying them and also overseeing the internal investigation.
