Schoolboy Rugby – Excitement And Surprises Expected In The Eastern Cape

If one looks at the fixture list below one can be mistaken to think most of the results will be easy to predict using the Ruggas.co.za 1stXV rankings. However, the Eastern Cape has proven to be the most unpredictable with surprises in the order of the day.

In the 2022 season, we have seen that most of the schools are not having a consistent season as is also the case with Grey High School. They lost four of their ten matches played with the losses against Maritzburg College and Wynberg a bit "surprising". Their opponents on Saturday, Queen's College had a horrible start to their season losing three of their first four matches, however, they did recover and won six of their eight games thereafter. Grey High should win this one with relative ease however if Queen's can replicate their form against KES Grey could be in for a hard day at the office.

Selborne will host St Andrew's College full of confidence especially taking into account their performance against Grey College last weekend. Although Selborne lost 20-38 to the boys from Bloemfontein one can maybe "forget" that catastrophic first five minutes during which they concede twelve points which bring the margin down to 20-26 which is a truer reflection of the match. St Andrew's have lost their last three matches in a row and if they do not pick themselves up, those big forwards of Selborne will have no problem prolonging their suffering. An easy win for Selborne?

Kingswood College lost three from their nine matches played with their best showing their loss against Selborne with 20-21 two weeks ago. Framesby were mauled by Garsfontein at the Wildeklawer, however, they only lost two of their nine matches with their loss against Selborne with 18-19 once again their best performance. Expect an exciting match with Framesby's dangerous backline just may be worth the one or two points that will decide the difference between these two exciting teams.
