Saturday 6 May all roads lead to Stellenbosch as two of the giants in SA schoolboy rugby faces off at the Markotter Stadium when neighbours Paarl Gimnasium come to visit.
Paarl Gimnasium is currently ranked 2nd by ruggas.co.za while Paul Roos is ranked 4th. On current form Paarl Gim must be the favourite, however, if they can not force their gameplan on Paul Roos, Paul Roos will cause the first upset in the Western Cape.
They have a score to settle as Paul Roos upset them last year on home turf, and won a closely fought game 26-24. Paarl Gim will be out to return the favour and beat Paul Roos on their beloved Markotter in front of the partisan home crowd.
The last ten matches have seen Paarl Gim winning seven, and Paul Roos three, so the home team would like to make it two in a row for 2023. Both teams come with two good wins at the Wildeklawer tournament, and they both seem to hit their straps at the right time.
Paul Roos is currently on a winning streak of five in a row after their loss to Monument at the North-South festival. Having opted not to participate in any Easter Weekend festivals, their team seems to be rejuvenated at Wilderklawer and showed some good form. They suffered a big loss in losing their captain due to injury in the match against DHS, and hopefully, he will be match fit against Paarl Gim this weekend.
Paarl Gim played eight matches so far, and after a close call against Stellenberg, they could not contain the mighty Grey College at the North-South festival. They also opted not to play at the Easter Festivals, and it showed in their recent form winning their last five games comfortably.
