DHL Western Province 65-00 Eastern Province
DHL Western Province U20 scored 11 unanswered tries to claim a resounding 63-0 victory against Eastern Province U20 in Despatch on Saturday.
It was the first win of the campaign for coach Jerome Paarwater’s side, following their opening draw with Leopards U20, and saw them climb to third on the standings.
DHL Western Province U20 scored four unconverted tries in the first half, with the wind making things very difficult off the kicking tee, and followed that up with a further seven tries after half-time.
Fullback Duran Koevort scored a hat-trick, while flyhalf Sacha Mngomezulu scored two tries and kicked four conversions.
Mngomezulu opened the scoring early on and it was not long when they doubled that lead, with flank Romuald Ntumba scoring out wide after a patient build-up.
Captain Dylan de Leeuw scored from a pick and go close to the line and fullback Duran Koevort crossed the whitewash just before half-time to put them 20-0 up at the break.
The tries kept coming in the second half, with flank Jarrod Taylor scoring from a pick and go and Mngomezulu scoring his second in the corner, with both tries converted by the flyhalf.
Replacement hooker Mauritz Swart got over for a maul try before some slick handling saw Koevort cross for his second, to take the lead out to 46-0.
They were not done there as replacement prop Lamla Nunu forced his way over to bring up the half-century before wing Rethabile Louw scored in the corner to cap a dominant performance.
