Salmaan Moerat Out For An Extended Period

DHL Stormers head coach John Dobson confirmed today that captain Salmaan Moerat suffered a grade 2 MCL tear that will not need surgery. Moerat will be out of action for six to eight weeks according to Dobson.

Although Dobson said it was a major blow for the Stormers he was confident that new recruit Adre Smith is as an established lock and like Moerat is very good at making the calls in the lineouts. He also is an abrasive player and is a good replacement for Moerat.

Smith made the highlights in October 2021 when he was suspended for eight weeks for biting a Munster player. Smith was found guilty of an act of foul play after he was cited following the Stormers' 34-18 loss to Munster earlier this month.

Video footage showed Munster hooker Niall Scannell and Smith tussling on the ground before the Munster player complained to the officials that he had been bitten.
