I had the great pleasure to visit Waterkloof Hoërskool on Monday and was able to speak to Lukas Holtzhauzen, the new Director of Rugby as well as Cobus van Dyk who was appointed as the new Head of Sport.
Both Lukas and Cobus seemed unfazed regarding the challenges facing them in the next few years to re-establish Waterkloof again as a feared opponent in the country. They acknowledged that the development of the lower teams are important but accepted the fact that the 1sXV's performances are the yardstick everybody else uses to determine the health of Waterkloof's rugby.
Darryl Weir, of Twizza Sevens, also visited us and were excited with the ever-expanding Twizza Sevens Series that is set for an exciting new 2020 season. Hopefully, in a few weeks, he will give us more information.
Then the gentleman himself, Bart Schoeman ex high-performance manager of the Lions shared his recipe to identify talent. Surprisingly talent is not the biggest factor when decisions are made. He also sounded very positive regarding his future.
Then I tried to get the panel to take out the Springboks but unfortunately not to be.
