Rugby World Cup – Team Of Week 5

All the big dogs in World Rugby played this weekend except for the Springboks. The forwards of Ireland dominate our selection while at the back three, is all All Blacks. The star of the weekend was definitely the hat trick hero Matteo Carreras (Argentina)

1. Andrew Porter (Ireland) - Porter anchored the scrum and his solid showing acted as a counterweight to an Irish scrum which was creaking on the tighthead side. Was seen winning turnovers in the loose too.

2. Dan Sheehan (Ireland) - Sheehan’s lineout throwing was pitch-perfect and made plenty of explosive runs.

3. Tomas Francis (Wales) - Francis was a pillar of strength in the scrums and made some notable carries.

4. Will Rowlands (Wales) - He showed a high work rate cementing himself as a real go-to as a carrier.

5. Iain Henderson (Ireland) - A rare start saw Henderson bring his physicality to the fore, and his leadership was invaluable in the heat of battle.

6. Peter O’Mahony (Ireland) - His work at the breakdown was crucial, and he showcased his trademark tenacity in defence.

7. Tommy Reffell (Wales) - Tackled like a madman and caused problems for Georgia at the breakdown, winning three crucial turnovers.

8. Gregory Alldritt (France) - He made the most carries of any player on the field, and eventually finished as France’s top tackler with 15 to his name.

9. Jamison Gibson-Park (Ireland) - He provided a sublime service to the backline and managed the tempo effectively. His decision-making near the line was impeccable.

10. Matthieu Jalibert (France) - He regularly challenged the line to great effect and created several opportunities out wide with brilliant hands.

11. Matteo Carreras (Argentina) - The hat-trick hero, a complete performance from the winger from start to finish.

12. Bundee Aki (Ireland) - Must be the best 12 in the world. His robust carries and intelligent lines of running created openings for Ireland’s attack.

13. Anton Lienert-Brown (All Blacks)- A great decision-maker, almost always doing the right thing.

14. Will Jordan (All Blacks) - He looked dangerous whenever the ball ended up in his hands.

15. Damian McKenzie (All Blacks) - Great stepper, safe under the high balls at the back and created a brilliant try.
