Roos’ Return To The Field Will Be Slow But Sure

DHL Stormers assistant coach Norman Laker confirmed that Evan Roos is fit and available for selection for their critical match against the Sale Sharks at home on Saturday at 15:00 (SA Time).

Laker also confirmed that prop Sti Sithole and Englishman Ben Loader have also started training with the team after long-term injuries.

Roos and Loader could make their first appearances of the season, while Sithole last played in October against Munster in the United Rugby Championship.

"Roos is a very impactful player, especially if he gets the ball in his hands. He and Marcel play a very similar type of rugby and the team gets good momentum if they get the ball."

"We’ve all seen what Evan can do if he gets the ball, he’s scored some very impressive tries for the Stormers, sometimes running almost 50 metres. His energy on attack is great for the team."

"I think our approach with him will be slow but sure in his return to the playing field."

Laker confirmed that Feinberg-Mngomezulu who injured his shoulder against the Sharks on 28 December did not train with the team this week.

"Sacha didn’t train this week and we still await an update on his injury and can’t say whether it’s a day or a week or two."

"I am not 100 per cent certain on what his injury is and how long he will be out for, whether it is one day, one week or a couple of weeks. I think we are still awaiting the results of an assessment of the injury. I am not sure what his status is. You will have to ask Dobbo."

"Rugby’s not an individual sport, it’s a team sport and with Sacha out there are other guys who can put their hands up. Jean-Luc showed us that in the last two games. When Sacha went off he played 60, 70-odd minutes."
