During episode five of "Planning your future star's career" we concentrate on the top 100 school leaving rugby players in South Africa that is offered contracts at a South African Rugby Union/Franchise.
The proposed agreement is a thorough document which mostly protects the rights of the Unions/Franchises. Therefore, it is of paramount importance that you make sure that the agent representing you during the negotiations with the Union/Franchise is capable and thorough.
If you want to attend any institution of higher learning make sure that you specify your desire in the contract as well as the assistance you will need from the Union/Franchise.
Other questions you must ask and include in your contract are:
1) May I study full-time or part-time?
2) How many players are you contracting in my position?
3) Are there a career pathway plan for me?
4) Who is the head coach?
5) May I play for a club if I get no game time at the Union/Franchise?
6) What are the accepted reasons stipulated in the contract that I can use to cancel my contract with a Union?
Ask questions but do not be "windgat".
