“Paloise Will Have Revenge On Their Minds” – Hawies Fourie

The Toyota Cheetahs travelled with a settled squad to Europe for their second round of matches in the 2023/2024 EPCR Challenge Cup. A condition for the Toyota Cheetahs’ participation was that the Cheetahs would be based in Europe.

They started their campaign with wins over Zebre and the Sharks in Bloemfontein resulting in them sitting at the top of Pool One.

The Toyota Cheetahs will host Section Paloise in Amsterdam on Sunday, January 14, and then play Oyonnax at Stade Charles Mathon on January 20.

Head coach Hawies Fourie was confident his team was up for the challenge.

“We have a good culture and a good vibe in the team going,” Fourie said.

Fourie said he is certain that the Paloise team will have revenge on their minds, after last season’s back-to-back losses to the Cheetahs in December 2022 and in the return match in January 2023.

Captain Victor Sekekete said: “We know Paloise's forwards will come for us, especially after what happened last season. We know their egos are bruised and it will be a tough game."

Oupa Mohoje should return after serving a two-week ban and an injury.

Coach Hawies Foerie said: "He played well against Pau in France last year, and he scored the winning try in that game. However, he was cited, banned for two weeks and then he was injured.

“Players like Friedle, Jeandré and Gideon took their chances and it was difficult for him and Sibabalo Qoma to find their way back into the team."

“However, I am happy with where Oupa is and I am sure he will take his chance if he gets it.”
