Saracens fly-half Owen Farrell predicted an exciting clash in South Africa as Saracens and Vodacom Bulls get their Pool 1 campaign up and running in this season’s Investec Champions Cup at 19:30 (SA Time) on Saturday at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria.
The contest is one of the most anticipated matches in the opening round of Investec Champions Cup fixtures, and 2017 EPCR Player of the Year Owen Farrell is looking forward to getting stuck in at Loftus Versfeld.
“I’m not used to playing there in our winter, their summer, so that will be different,” he explained.
“It will be a nice break from the cold here but obviously that’s going to be a challenge and obviously they’ll be the altitude as well. It will be different for a lot of the lads but it’s an exciting challenge to have.”
Farrell could become the second-highest-ever points scorer in this year’s competition, but he says that the individual records only come about as a result of the team effort.
“That’s something that comes with the team playing well, I've never thought about it before,” he explained.
“It comes with the team performing and being hopefully consistent in this tournament for a long time, and I’ve been part of a team that’s done that and [that are] lucky enough to be in the competition.”
