Jordan Hendrikse’s meteoric rise in South African rugby has captivated fans, with the young flyhalf already making a significant impact for the Hollywoodbets Sharks in 2024. We’re spotlighting this impressive player’s biggest and brightest moments with the Warrior Nation.
It was at the final of the Carling Currie Cup that Hendrikse truly stamped his mark locally. In a nerve-wracking finish against the Fidelity ADT Lions, he kicked a last-gasp 59-metre penalty to secure a 16-14 victory for the Hollywoodbets Sharks XV.
“Those are moments you don’t get often. I was blessed to win for my team, and it’s given me a boost heading into the URC and Bok setup,” Hendrickse said.
Hendrikse has continued to build on this early success, featuring in all five matches of the Vodacom United Rugby Championship so far this year. His performances in the competition have further solidified his reputation as a promising flyhalf.
He’s also recently been called up to replace the injured Frans Malherbe in the Springbok Squad for the Castle Lager Outgoing Tour and relishes the opportunity to showcase his skills across the Springbok backline after his late call-up for the November tour.
His versatility could make him a valuable asset for the Boks, with the ability to play at flyhalf, inside centre, and fullback.
“I’ve always made fun of being a 'universal plug,' able to play in different positions, but my preferred position is flyhalf."
Hendrikse values the learning experience at the Springboks with Handre Pollard and Manie Libbok his immediate opponents at flyhalf in the touring squad.
“It’s always competitive, but I’ve learned a lot from them. It’s about helping each other and wanting the best for whoever plays on Saturday,” he shared."
“I would say our role is to make ourselves selectable for the next three games and hopefully feature, whether it’s next week or the next two games after that."
“I’m just grateful to be in the set-up again, but it’s important to be selectable over the next two or three games.”
