A personal opinion of the Springboks' performance in the 3rd and final test against the B&I Lions.
15 Willie le Roux (6.5/10)
His best test against the B&I Lions with great positional play. His telling contribution with Kolbe's try showed glimpses of the old world-class player.
14 Cheslin Kolbe (7.5/10)
He showed his brilliance with that magical try and made the minimum of errors on the defence. His best performance for the Springboks this year.
13 Lukhanyo Am (8/10)
The Springboks best player at the back. Solid on the defence and would like to see him getting more attacking opportunities.
12 Damian de Allende (7/10)
He did exactly what was asked by the Springbok coaching staff and a bit more. Would like to see him attack the spaces and not always set up the next phase.
11 Makazole Mapimpi (5/10)
Not his best test this year. He missed several tackles and were lacking the energy we got used to.
10 Handré Pollard (5.5/10)
Not his best test and also missed crucial penalties.
9 Cobus Reinach (4.5/10)
Very predictable and also slow behind the scrum and mauls. Not an answer at 9 for the Springboks.
8 Jasper Wiese (7/10)
He is growing into the #8 jersey and deserves more opportunities.
7 Franco Mostert (6.5/10)
Energetic but not always effective on defence and the attack.
6 Siya Kolisi (captain) (7/10)
He led from the front as the captain but not as influential as in the second test. I still feel his captaincy is not helping his normally brilliant play.
5 Lood de Jager (8/10)
Added what was missing in the second row. Massive work rate on the attack with several dominant tackles made. Unfortunately, the current bok gameplan does not give him enough opportunities on the attack.
7/10
4 Eben Etzebeth (9/10)
Mr Ysterbeth again at his best. The Springbok's player of the series.
3 Frans Malherbe (7/10)
Did what was expected of him in the scrums while also doing more than his share in the defence.
2 Bongi Mbonambi (4/10)
He struggled with his line-out throwing also struggled to impose himself physically. Not his best performance.
1 Steven Kitshoff (5/10)
Not at his best come scrum-time and an average performance otherwise.
We discuss the players performances
Replacements:
16 Malcolm Marx (7/10)
He added a lot of physicality upfront on the defence and the attack. Strong come scrum time also.
17 Trevor Nyakane (8.5/10)
The heart of the "Bomb squad" effectiveness and the crucial scrum penalty is a story to be told for a long time.
18 Vincent Koch (6.5/10)
Did exactly what was expected from him.
19 Marco van Staden (6/10)
He needs time to establish himself as a super sub. But did a few good things.
20 Kwagga Smith (7/10)
Great on the defence.
21 Herschel Jantjies (6/10)
Did what was expected of him.
22 Morné Steyn (7.5/10)
He did it again.
23 Damian Willemse
Not enough time to be rated
