Saturday in the match between Affies 1stXV and that of the visiting Westville Boys High Johan Mulder scrumhalf of Affies broke his leg and was rushed to the hospital.
This incident put an end to the Blue Bulls Craven Week u/18 dream that Johan Mulder may have had. Johan would have played for the A side at the matches between five shadow sides of the Bulls and Lions on Tuesday 23 May 2017. Johan's performance on the rugby field this season was of such a quality that his duel with Tinus Combrinck, of the Lions and SA Elite squad was seen as a duel by two top contenders for the SA School's squads. Now we can only say if ............
Next to the field an Affies Old Boy, Witbul and Bulls u/18 Player of 2014 Carlo de Nysschen sat and the first thing that he thought of was the jersey Johan would never be able to wear. Carlo realised that Johan would have been part of a long tradition of Affies scrum halves representing the Bulls at U/18 level. Carlo decided in giving the jersey to Johan he will be a special member of that tradition to own a no. 9 Bulls jersey.
Great tradition, great boys and yes great school. My people.
