After the Wildeklawer Festival, nobody gave Affies a chance of winning in Bloemfontein especially after the performances of both teams at the Festival was taken into consideration. Nobody except for 1300 boys and their supporters.

Affies started the game with their intention very clear, dominate up front and score with their potent backline. With the lead changing sides several times during the match both sides showed intensity and passion not willing to let the other team win. Affies dominated on the ground and in the lineouts while Grey College's backline showed why it is regarded as the best in South Africa. Nothing on paper can ever describe the efforts of the boys on the field and both sides know that it could have gone the other way easily.

Affies was leading 32-25 two minutes from full time when Grey's wing Henk Cilliers scored a converted try to tie the scores 32-32. Grey College attacked from the kick off to win a penalty after the time was up and Grey's hero outside centre Rikus Pretorius slotted the winning penalty taking his contribution to 25 points for Grey in this match.
