Affies 73-06 Durbanville - Affies Demolishes Durbanville
The final match to end off a brilliant and best spectator attended Noord/Suid Rugby Tournament ever, started with Durbanville collecting the kick-off however, Affies soon took possession and forced a penalty which they kicked into the corner. From there they scored a converted try from a clinical driving maul to open their scoring tally 7-0. Affies attacked again from the restart forcing Durbanville back into their half however some errors prevented them from finishing some scoring opportunities.
Affies got a scrum 5 metres from the Durbanville try line right in front of the uprights from where they launched an attack to score their second converted try to take their score to 14-0 with 22 minutes left in the half. Affies continued exerting pressure on Durbanville with their bigger and dominant forward and backline players and with well-structured play. They scored a great converted try with strong attacking runs and good interplay between the forwards and the backs to increase their lead to 21-0.
Soon after the restart Affies again created gaps in the Durbanville defence with more strong attacking runs to score a converted try in the corner despite Durbanville defending with all their might. Affies was by now well in control of the match with the score at 28-0 and 12 minutes left to play.
Durbanville managed to play into Affies’ half and tried to attack but a dropped pass was poached by Affies who immediately broke upfield and scored a try in the corner to increase their lead to 33-0. Soon thereafter Durbanvilel kicked two consecutive penalties to take their score to 33-6. Affies then scored a converted try outplaying the defence out wide to take the score to 40-6 at halftime.
The second half was a continuation of the play in the first half with Affies scoring another five tries to demolish Durbanville 73-6.
Noordheuwel 35-22 Welkom Gim - Noordheuwel in a great win against Welkom Gim
It took the age four minutes to get going as a set scrum, resulting from a poor kickoff, struggled to get the referee's approval. Welkom Gim immediately scored a try after Noordheuwel won the ball from the reset scrum. Noordheuwel evened the score with a converted try with twenty-two minutes of play left on the clock.
Welkom Gim scored their second converted try with thirteen minutes left in the first half to which Noordheuwel replied almost immediately replied with a try of their own to level the scores once again with 14-14. Noordheuwel scored their third try with only minutes left on the clock giving them a 21-14 lead at the break.
Noordheuwel was the first to open their account in the second half and extended their lead to 28-14 with a converted try after ten minutes of play. Noordheuwel sealed the win with a great try that started in their own half with four minutes to go, extending their lead to 35-17, however, Welkom Gim had the final say after scoring an unconverted try in the corner as the hooter sounded..

Helpmekaar 30-23 Paul Roos - Helpmekaar edge Paul Roos in a thriller
Helpmekaar forced Paul Roos into their half right from the start however Paul Roos scored the first try after a clever cross-kick to their wing who ran from within their half to open their scoring tally 5-0. Paul Roos played into the Helpmekaar quarter again and scored a driving maul try from a penalty lineout to take their score to 10-0.
Helpmekaar opened their scoring tally with a penalty kick late in the half. Paul Roos continued to pin Helpmekaar in their half playing most of the rugby with Helpmekaar’s defence holding up. The halftime score was 10-3.
Helpmekaaar came out in the second half seemingly rejuvenated and levelled the score after great individual play by their inside centre. Paul Roos struck with a try of their own with 20 minutes left on the clock to extend their lead to 17-10. These two tries seemed to inject some excitement and intent into the two sides, with Helpmekaar levelling the score after a great linebreak by their flyhalf.
The sides traded converted penalties whereafter Helpmekaar scored a converted try to take the lead with 27-20 and ten minutes to go. Although the last few minutes had their share of excitement and suspense Helpmekaar managed to defend their seven-point to win 30-23.
Glenwood 17-62 Paarl Gim - Effective Paarl Gim Thumps Glenwood
The match started with Gim forcing a penalty and kicking for the line from where they employed their devastating driving maul to score the first try which was converted. Glenwood played into Gim’s half but the Gim defence soon turned them. With 12 minutes gone in the half, the match was a somewhat scrappy affair with the Glenwood defence spoiling good ball for Gim who struggled to get good momentum going. They however score a very good try from a set-piece scrum on the Glenwood 25 meter line beating the Glenwood defence on the blindside to take the score to 12-0.
Gim however started to settle into their well-structured playing routine and gained territory from where they continued attacking phase play and scored a brilliant worked try with an inside break. Soon after the restart of play Gim broke the Glenwood defensive lone and ran from within their own half to score another try extending their lead to 26-0 with 14 minutes of playtime left in the half.
Glenwood managed to play I into Gim’s quarter and had a good try line attacking opportunity for the first time in the half with a good driving maul which Gim managed to defend. Glenwood was however given another penalty but lost their penalty lineout throw-in. Gim then ran themselves out of trouble finding gaps in the Glenwood backline.
Gim continued to attack in Glenwood’s half until Glenwood managed to force play into Gim’s quarter with a clever cross-kick collected by the wing and then scored a try from another good cross-kick to open their scoring tally with 5 points. The halftime score was 26-5.
The second half started with Gim scoring a converted try from another strong driving maul from a penalty lineout. Glenwood soon responded with a brilliant try after the ball was kicked up the field and collected by a Glenwood player who managed to beat two tackles on the outside and pass the ball just short of the Gim try line for the try to be scored by another Glenwood player taking their score to 38-10.
Glenwood then won the ball from a penalty lineout in Gim’s quarter. They again chip kicked it near the Gim try line to beat the Gim defence scoring a great converted try taking their score to 38-17. Gim continued to dominate the match with attacking rugby keeping Glenwood pinned in their half electing to run the ball every time however, some uncustomary errors marred their efforts until they managed to outrun the Glenwood defence to score a converted try with 8 minutes left on the clock.
With 5 minutes left to play the Glenwood dam wall broke allowing Gim to score another three running rugby tries in quick succession which was converted taking the score to 62-17 which was the final score.
Monnas 41-18 Oakdale - Monnas’ Systematic Pressure Overcomes Oakdale
The match predictably started evenly between these two teams in all aspects. Oakdale however started to force Monnas into their half and get a penalty which they kicked for their first points after 9 minutes. They then soon after scored a great try after the ball was slickly passed through many hands eventually beating the Monnas defence out wide.
Oakdale then again forced a penalty to kick another 3 points. Monnas regathered themselves and systematically played into Oakdales half where they started attacking the try line to score a try with 7 minutes left in the half. They then scored another try 3 minutes later after a great midfield break by the backline to take the score to 11-10. Oakdale retaliated by bulldozing over the Monnas try line in the last seconds of the half to take the score to 18-10 at halftime.
The first 12 minutes of the second half saw both teams attacking each other’s try line however, only Monnas was able to score a try after a chip kick by a Monnas player just inside the try line bounced off an Oakdale player and was recollected by Monnas to score taking the score to 18-17 with 20 minutes left to play. Monnas soon thereafter set up a strong driving maul from within Oakdale’s quarter to score another converted try to take an 18-24 lead on the scoreboard for the first time.
The systematic pressure by Monnas started to give them control of the match and kicked a penalty to increase their lead 18-27. Oakdale received a yellow card with 9 minutes left to play for repeated infringements on defence just inside their try line. Monnas seized this opportunity and scored another converted try to take the match away from Oakdale at 18-34. Oakdale received another yellow card for a dangerous tackle with 5 minutes left to play however they managed to stave off the Monnas attack until right at the end when Monnas scored a final converted try beating Oakdale 18-41.
EG Jansen 24-42 Stellenberg - A Ding Dong Battle Ended In A Deserved Win By Stellenberg
Both teams showed from the kickoff that they are willing and capable to spread the ball wide at every opportunity. Stellenberg opened their account with a converted penalty, minutes from the kickoff. The first try from Stelleneberg followed after six minutes and the side from Durbanville is looking dangerous.
Stellenberg opened up an early lead of 15-00 before EG Jansen scored their first try after seventeen minutes of action. Stellenberg struck back immediately to score their third try to lead 22-05 with fifteen minutes to go in the first half.
EG Jansen scored their second try with seconds to go on the clock making the halftime score 25-10 in favour of Stellenberg. At this stage both sides are still running at every opportunity, however, festival fatigue could still become a great factor in deciding the outcome of this game.
EG Jansen Started like a house on fire setting up camp in the Stellenberg 22m for a good five minutes, however, the know famous defence by Stellenberg kept EG Jansen from scoring. Stellenberg turned defence into attack and scored their fifth try with twenty-seven minutes to go. Not to be outdone and true to the type of rugby that was played EG Jansen struck back immediately with two tries of their own closing the gap to 24-30 and 20 minutes to go.
The match continued to be a ding dong battle with two exhausted sides giving their best to make this game another brilliant game at the Noord/Suid Festival. Stellenberg going back to Durbanville with a deserved 42-24 win against a more than willing EG Jansen.
