Monnas announced the appointment of Ethienne Reynecke as their defence and breakdowns coach. Monnas will celebrate their Centenary in 2021 and the appointment of Reynecke will add another dimension to their game and preparation.
Monnas' Director of Rugby, Tjaar vd Walt said that they are always looking to improve their rugby and that the addition of Reynecke will expose the players to new and innovative coaching methods. Reynecke's knowledge and passion will add great value to Monnas' rugby according to vd Walt.
Reynecke playing career started at the Golden Lions and also represented the Griffons, Saracens, Stormers, Connacht, Cheetahs during his playing career that stretched over 13 years. After pro rugby, Reynecke turned his focus to MMA and trained at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, FL. In 2018 Reynecke suffered a series of near-death experiences, namely an ischemic stroke, leaving him with the permanent disability Aphasia. Fortunately, he recovered and in 2020 became the South Africa IMMAF light-heavyweight champion.
