The demise of rugby at Menlopark has a long history stretching over 5-10 years, however, they are currently in a desperate fight in the boardrooms to remain in the NoordVaal Cup division in 2024.
Menlopark has approached the NoordVaal High School Rugby Association to clarify several point allocations which they are confident were not done according to the regulations as published on 23 March 2023. Should their appeal be successful they could still avoid being relegated.
Currently, Marais Viljoen has 113 log points while Menlopark has 106 log points on the official NoordVaal log. Menlopark has played all their league fixtures while Marais Viljoen has an appointment with Noordheuwel at home on Saturday.
Marais Viljoen will earn a guaranteed 11 log points against Noordheuwel to add to their total for the year. We do not expect them to win any of their senior matches, while two wins at the u/16 level are unlikely but possible. No wins against Noordheuwel's u/15s, as well as u/14s, are expected. Doing all the calculations and factoring in the possibles, probables and unlikelies, Marais Viljoen should earn a maximum of 17 log points which will earn them a maximum of 129 log points or a minimum of 124 log points.
Menlopark's u/16A team will most probably qualify for the semi-finals and could earn them a maximum of 10 log points should they win the final. Add to that 16 log points that Menlopark could earn should their appeal re point allocations succeed, which could see them ending the season on a maximum of 132 log points or a minimum of 107 log points.
