World Rugby issued a statement regarding the alleged discriminatory language by Springbok hooker Bongi Mbonambi. The South African social media was quick to react in defence of Mbonambi with one account explaining that Mbonambi said to English flanker Tom Curry in Afrikaans he is off side and must stand on the white side, England. Unfortunately, Curry made a direct translation and interpreted it as a "White C*nt"
"World Rugby takes all allegations of discriminatory behaviour extremely seriously. We can confirm that we are formally reviewing the allegation made by England’s Tom Curry in relation to the use of discriminatory language during the England versus South Africa Rugby World Cup 2023 semi-final on Saturday. World Rugby will not be making further comment until the conclusion of the process."
Unfortunately or fortunately we will only have the word of Curry and Mbonambi on what was said.
