Maties' Head of Rugby Drikus Hancke has confirmed the appointment of Matthew Proudfoot as consultant head coach of the Maties Varsity Cup Team. This follows the resignation of former head coach, Norman Jordaan whom accepted an offer from Western Province Rugby Union.
The Rugby Football Union (RFU) announced on Monday that Matt Proudfoot had left his position as England’s forwards' coach. Proudfoot agreed to step down after three years under former head coach Eddie Jones, who was sacked after an internal review of the team's November international series.
Maties have been crowned the Varsity Cup champions five times, while they had also lost in five finals, the most recent of which came in 2022 when they went down 23-29 to UP-Tuks.
