A cold and wet morning greeted us in the Paarl this morning. It however did not dampen the excitement of the boys and especially the parents. Here we must mention the parents of the SWD team that made noise from the first match till the last one of the day. Hope they do not experience a too big of a babelaas after the braai tonight.
We can only report on games played on the "A" Field.
Namibia 10 - 12 Border
Namibia started this match like a house on fire. Attacking with every opportunity. Border absorbed the initial pressure and with no 15 Dwayne Pharo, in excellent form, scoring the first two tries within the first 20 minutes. Namibia striked back in the 25th minute with a try from Jacobus Malan giving Border the half time lead of 12 – 5. Namibia striked just after half time with an excellent try from Fillipus Tshuuya, Beast, taking the score to 12 – 10 in favour of Boland. This match will be remembered for the amount of handling errors made by both teams. Namibia missed a penalty in the last minute that would have given them a deserved victory.

Griffons 22 - 29 Boland
This match was a ding dong battle during the first half. With the Griffons scoring the first try in the 4th minute. This set the pace for the first halve with 5 tries scored. Boland lead with 22 - 8 at the end of the first half. At this stage Border threatened to run away with the match with the Griffons defending the whole time. Within ten minutes after the start of the second half Boland scored again through Enwill Swartz, and everybody expected this to be the end. The Griffons however never looked at the score board and was in control the last 15 minutes scoring the last two tries of the match. Great game with the boys refusing the weather to have the last say.

Leopards 14 - 21 SWD
The SWD initialy control all in the match scoring two early tries and leading 18 - 7 at the end of the first half. The Leopards never gave up and all waited for them to score some deserved points. The weather at this stage was getting really bad making handling very difficult. The second half was a more even match with the Leopards winning this half 7 - 3.
I do not believe in naming boys at this age. But the 5 of SWD, Jacobus Muller was exceptional. This boy is as hard as stone and is playing a Bakkies Botha type of game. However if Bakkies played at this pace during his matches for the Boks he would have been ten times better. Well done Jacobus Muller JY IS 'N YSTER
Scorers :
Leopards Tries : Heinrich Loock, Christopher Albertus Conversions : Carl Pieter Kleynhans (2).
SWD Tries : Simeon Oostuizen (2) Conversions : Dewanley Van Rensburg Penalties : Dewanley Van Rensburg (2), Kurtley Kiewiet.
Sharks 10 - 5 Griquas
The weather causing the boys to slip and slide more than running normally. Therefore a lot of handling errors. Griquas seemed to be in control of the match but still lost the game. The major difference in this game was the forwards of KZN. Whoever is coaching these boys deserve to be named. Being almost halve the size of Griquas they still managed to scrum the heavier Griquas at will. To my humble opinion the difference between win or loose.
Scorers :
Sharks Tries : Amahle Mbatha, Londani Mpungose.
Griquas Tries : Anndreas Van Wyk
Bulls 5 - 0 Limpopo Bulls
It must be said that the Bulls was lucky, very lucky. But if you "steal" two victories in two days one must also say something about the will to win of this team. A lot of handling errors caused this match to never really get going. This match will be remembered for the last 10 minutes with the Limpopo Bulls pitching tents 10 meters from the Bulls try line. White line fever must be blamed for the boys of Limpopo not winning this one. Not forgetting the massive defence effort by the Bulls.
Scorers :
Bulls Tries : Charl Ehlers
WP 5 - 3 Golden Lions
The Lions was the best team in the first half failing to score several times. Weather weather and weather must be mentioned. The WP scored in the 3rd minute in the second half, leading 5 - 3 till the end. This half WP control proceedings but handling errors by both sides made scoring impossible. The Lions failing to score the winning penalty in the 26th minute, after several penalties in the last 5 minutes. Both side happy at the end? Definately in this weather.
Scorers :
Western Province Tries : Hakeem Kunene
Golden Lions Penalties : Mackneil Ewan Lawack
Valke 16 - 12 Free State
The first minutes setting the pace at what this game was to be played. The Valke almost scored from their 25m line, whith the Free State replying ending back at where every started. These boys completely ignored the weather and handling was done at speed and without much mistakes. The Valke must be the complete team of this tournament with big forwards, a 10 with a big foot and a backline doing everything at speed with speed. They were leading 16 - 0 until the 15th minute in the second half. Only then did the Free State manage to score two tries. The Valke the team to beat, taking the right decisions at the right times thereby securing the win against Free State.
Scorers :
Valke Tries : Jordan Waring Conversions : Nathan Steyn Penalties : Nathan Steyn
Free State Tries : Ferdinand Vergottini (2) Coversions : Pieter Johannes Smith
