Maritzburg College announced the appointment of Mr Hein Kriek as their new Director of Rugby who will be joining the staff in 2021.
Mr Kriek has an extensive Rugby CV. His rise to prominence was at Paul Roos where he was both the Head Coach of the 1st XV and, later, the Director of Rugby and, at the same time, has won multiple medals at the Craven Week and Academy Weeks with Western Province Schools. In 2014/15 he was the Head Coach of the SA Schools Rugby Team that played against England, France & Wales.
Mr Kriek joined the Pumas for the 2016/17 Currie Cup season and then moved abroad coaching in the USA and then was appointed as the Technical Director of the Netherlands Rugby Union overseeing the National High-Performance programme for all senior and junior national teams. Mr Kriek holds a Masters’ degree in Sports Science in the field of Coaching and is also a Life Sciences teacher – which he will also be teaching at College.
