Marcell Coetzee – The End Of The Development Of Talented Youngsters Or Not?

The Vodacom Bulls announced the signing of 29-year-old Springbok loose forward Marcell Coetzee on Monday. This signing again raised the question if the "buying" of a championship is acceptable and/or justifiable?

One must accept that all Unions' advertising-income is dependant on the winning of championships and/or cups, therefore, the winning "motive" has become the only "motive" in the success stories of South Africa's rugby franchises.

The current change in the competition structures in South Africa has rightfully lead to the question if the development of young players is making any financial sense. The development of talent is more expensive and riskier than the contracting of a senior player that has proved himself already.

Listen To Bart's views that could help us reach a sensible solution in order to guarantee the development of our junior talent

This brings us to the decision junior players will have to make when they decide where to go and play rugby in order to ensure their development into a viable senior player in years to come.

We discuss a few viable options currently available to talented youngsters. However, the honeymoon for these youngsters are over and they will have to do the hard yards if they want to become the superstars of the future.

However, if SARU does not change the current competition structures our talented players will dominate our international competitors' teams team-sheets in the near future.
