The Vodacom Bulls Director of Rugby Jake White said at the post-match conference that although in hindsight it was maybe unfair to appoint Reinhardt Ludwig captain against the Hollywoodbets Sharks, however, he is confident that Ludwig will learn a lot from the experience.
"It's not pointing fingers. I mean, Reinhardt Ludwig is an unbelievable leader. He didn't do anything wrong."
"He was trying to, again, if I think about it, him running the line-out and captain. I'm only giving you the answer. I'm not saying it's the case. Maybe I need to have rethought that. Maybe it was a bit unfair on him to run the line-out, and be the captain."
"But who knows? In a couple of weeks' time, a couple of years' time, when he's leading the team and he's the incumbent captain and everyone goes, you know, it was a great masterstroke, then everything will be positive."
"I remember sitting in front of the media and saying, Ruan Nortje, look, here's the new captain. And then I picked Elrigh Louw as the captain and I had the same questions. Are you sure?"
"So Ludwig will have to learn from that. He's bright. He'll learn."
"I will also have to learn from that. Maybe I was thinking that he'd be OK in terms of calling the line-out."
"But he didn't have a goal kicker either. So it's quite tough when he acts on that. It's not like, OK, we'll go for poles. We hit the pole with that kick and we missed another one and we missed touch twice."
"So, I mean, the poor guy probably thinks, well, if I go for touch, we don't find touch. If I go for poles, we hit the pole and if I go to the line-out, we've been turned over twice."
"It was not really an easy day for a captain."
