Black and White Or Red?

259

The annual clash between Jeppe Boys High and KES dates back to 1935 and is one of the oldest interschool rivalries in Gauteng. In that first match, KES won 20-0 and earned the bragging rights. They would win another 56 times over the next 81 years. On Saturday they hoped to do it again.

This year Jeppe will play host in this 82nd edition.

If comparing the two side's year so far Jeppe must be the favorite to win. KES winning 7 of their 15 fixtures with none of their victories against any top class teams. Jeppe on the other hand lost only 4 of their 19 matches this year. However the boys in black and white lost their last two encounters against Parktown and Waterkloof.

For KES to win they must do what Ben Vorster did early in the season. Isolate Wandile Simelane, neutralise Tyrone Green and score more points than Jeppe. Easier said than done but in a strange move Tyrone Green was moved to full back for this match and one can only imagine what effect this will have on the performance of the back line.

Over the 70 minutes, Jeppe supporters - staff, former and current pupils, and parents clad in their traditional black and white colours - will taunt their opponents with the their war cry: "All we see is black and white."Their opponents in their red gear will answer back: "Our blood is red." All done in good spirit but with both eyes glued to the field.
