Chris de Beer, a former deputy head of student fees at the Stellenbosch University was convicted of fraud after pleading guilty in the Bellville Specialised Commercial Crimes Court and was sentenced to correctional supervision and five years imprisonment, suspended for five years.
De Beer was a co-accused in another court battle involving the former South African Rugby boss, Jurie Roux with the University of Stellenbosch.
De Beer was also the player agent for several high-profile rugby players including Peter Grant, Juan de Jongh and Schalk Brits.
De Beer admitted to making false representations in order to write off Maties rugby players' tuition fees while creating the impression that their fees were paid. The sum of de Beer's fraud was R 480 092 and was committed between 2007 and 2012.
De Beer claimed during his trial that he only wanted to help needy students.
