The New Nation Pumas will host DHL Western Province this afternoon at 13h00 in Nelspruit in a Round 7 match of the 2021 Carling Currie Cup competition. DHL Western Province scored a great win against Pumas with 37-23.
Both sides were looking to move the ball out wide. Ill-discipline by the Pumas costing them points on the scoreboard as well as several promising attacking opportunities. As the match continued Western Province started to take full control and "won" the second half with 21-13 after the Pumas scored two late tries.
11:05 Pumas Captain Pieter Janse van Vuuren send off to the bin with a yellow card.
12:08 Tim Swiel converted a penalty to put Western Province in the lead. A very loose game at this stage with both teams willing to run from anywhere, (00-03).
18:52 Gerrie Labuschagne converted a penalty for the Pumas to level the score, (03-03).
20:00 Both teams were willing to move the ball from anywhere on the field. Not much structure either in both teams current gameplan. Anybody's game but till anybody's game with Western Province may be just the better off after 20 minutes of play.
24:00 Tim Swiel converted his second penalty of the day, (03-06).
25:30 Tristan Leyds score a great try for Western Province after a misguided up and under from the Pumas, (03-13)
31:20 Tim Swiel converted his 3rd penalty, (03-16).
35.35 A penalty try to the Pumas as Sazi Sandi received a yellow card after illegally bringing down a driving maul, (10-16).
40:00 Western Province have the momentum for most of the 1st half. Unfortunately, as in their loss to the Cheetahs, they are unable to convert their dominance into points. However, the Pumas are still very much in the match that could still go either way. The Pumas was again guilty of conceding too many penalties which will cost them the match.
45:57 Neil Marais convert a penalty to reduce Western Province to just 3, (13-16)
52:15 Paul de Wet scored Western Province's 2nd try after several players handled the ball, (13-23).
57:42 Pumas' Simon Westraad received a yellow card.
60:00 Western Province's dominance continued in the third quarter as they stretched their lead to 10 points.
61:06 Tristan Leyds collect a cross-kick from Tim Swiel and dotted down for his second try of the day, (13-30).
66:45 Evan Roos was rewarded for another brilliant effort as he scored Western Province's bonus point try, (13-37).
70:20 Simon Westraadt scored a try off the back of a 5m lineout maul, (18-37).
83:15 Eddie Fouche scored the Pumas third try to give the score some respectability. (23-37).
