HSBC SVNS – Brilliant Springbok Women’s Sevens Beat Spain

 

The Springbok Women's Sevens secured a 26-14 win over Spain in the ninth-place semi-final. Two late tries by the Springbok Women's Sevens secured the win with the scores level with two minutes left to play in the second half.

It took the Springbok Women's Sevens three minutes to score their first try. The Springbok Women's Sevens hacked a dropped ball, on their own tryline, forward with Nadine Roos winning the race to open the scoring. Maria Tshiremba added a second try to open a 14-00 lead after five minutes of play. Spain struck back after time was already up to trail 07-14 at the halftime break.

Spain continued where they left off in the first half and scored their second try to level the scores. Maria Tshiremba scored her second try with a brilliant effort to secure a 19-14 lead with seconds to go in the second half. A try by Ayanda Malinga after time was up secured the Springbok Women's Sevens a 26-14 win.

The Springbok Women's Sevens will face the USA at 06:14 (SA Time) in the ninth-place final on Sunday morning.
