New Zealand scored two tries in the final ninety seconds of the match to beat the Blitzboks 33-24 in Madrid.
A mistake defence by the Bitzboks' in their half eventually led to New Zealand's first try to lead 07-00 after three minutes of play. The Blitzboks struck back immediately when Christie Grobbelaar bulldozed his way over in the corner to reduce New Zealand's lead to two points.
A mistake by New Zealand at the kick-off gave a brilliant Quewin Nortje space out wide to score a try in the corner, however, three yellow cards in quick succession put the pressure back onto the Blitzboks, leading to New Zealand being awarded a penalty try and lead 14-10 going into the second half.
Despite starting with only four players on the pitch a Christie Grobbelaar grubber, collected by Selvyn Davids to score a brilliant try to retake the lead with 17-14. However, seconds later Leroy Carter struck down the middle to score New Zealand's third try.
Quewin Nortje scored his second try on the back of a brilliant kick by Tristan Leyds to retake the lead 24-21 with ninety seconds still to play. Unfortunately for the Blitzboks, New Zealand scored a further two tries to win 33-24.
