Helpmekaar’s Last Big Hurrah

Helpmekaar played their last "big" game for the year and managed to win a very physical and close encounter against a very game and good Garsfontein 28-27. Both these sides deserved to win this game but with Helpmekaar edging Garsfontein on the ground and their ability to adapt their game plan to counter Garsfontein's physical approach, made them maybe just the deserved winner. But no more Cary, Venter, Snyman and other stars for the followers of "big" matches. Helpmekaar's insistence on competing in the VirSeker Big School's league will see them playing their last 5 games against "weaker" opponents with maybe just Oos Moot from Pretoria able to compete with them. This decision will see Helpmekaar sliding down the rankings as none of their competitors left will mean points gained for wins, but rather will see them losing points.

KES were being harassed by St Benedicts and could only manage an 18-10 victory against a much lower ranked St Benedicts. Affies loss and the reasons for the loss was discussed in lengths,  but the record books will show that Waterkloof won 24-15 on the Plaas. The scoreline flattering Affies as Waterkloof was in control from the beginning.

Centurion and Eldoraigne continued their dominance of the Macro B league in Pretoria when Wonderboom 60-14 and John Vorster HTS 68-13 lost against them respectively. EG Jansen demolished Florida 75-7 and Nelspruit became the Pumas Macro Schools champions after their win against Middelburg HTS 22-17. The Pumas needs to find more Macro Schools as the competition is useless as only two schools are competing with this match last Saturday the third time these two schools played against each other.

Oos Moot showed why everybody insists that they move up to the Macro B league in Pretoria. Oos Moot won against Midstream College who is the runners-up in the Big Schools Pretoria league with 52-24. The final between these two games yet to be played is just a waste of time as Oos Moot completely dominated this fixture and unless Midstream finds a miracle cure the result will be the same in the final. Potch Gim kept their hopes alive to become the Leopards champion in beating Lichtenburg 29-20 and Ben Vorster secured their playoff spot when they won against Pietersburg 41-29. In the Puma league, Piet Retief surprised all when the beat Ligbron 24-17 to qualify for the playoffs.

Parktown scored an impressive win against the favourites St Alban's with  34-26. This loss was St Alban's 4th in 16 games this season. Then the comeback kids scored yet another good win against St John's of Johannesburg. Pretoria Boys High winning 4 of their last 5 games and going into the holidays with a lot of confidence which they will need as their last three matches is against KES, Maritzburg College and Affies.
