“He Kept The DHL Stormers Motivated Through Tough Times” – Dawie Snyman

The DHL Stormers' head coach John Dobson, was deservedly voted as the SA Rugby Coach of the Year beating Springboks coach Jacques Nienaber and the Airlink Pumas head coach, Jimmy Stonehouse.

DHL Stormers assistant coach Dawie Snyman paid tribute to Dobson during a media conference.

“We are extremely proud of Dobbo. We went through a tough time and he was always strong. He kept everyone motivated. I think he kept a lot of players together when it looked like we were going to lose some top players,” says Snyman.

“Everyone will say that it is a pleasure to work with Dobbo. He brings out the best in players and coaches and gets the team to pursue a common goal. It’s a privilege to work with him.”

Dobson started his career as a coach at Western Province in 2010 when he was appointed as the coach of the Western Province u/21 side and he helped them win the 2010 u/21 Provincial Championship in his first season in charge.

In February 2015, Dobson was appointed as the head coach of Western Province's Currie Cup team, taking over from Allister Coetzee, who departed to Japan to take over at the Kobelco Steelers.

In his first year of the Vodacom United Rugby Championship in 2022, Dobson’s team capped off a magnificent season by defeating the Vodacom Bulls in the final at DHL stadium.
