Grey College has passed the 1000 days unbeaten mark mid-February with their last loss being against Selborne on the 20th May of 2017 (19-20) however, they also drew against Glenwood (25-25) on the 4th of August 2018.
On Saturday they will face Welkom Gim who will test them thoroughly. Welkom Gim has already played two matches this season beating Vryheid 73-3 and Menlopark 43-7. The win against an "undercooked" Menlopark was impressive enough for the country to sit up and take notice.
Welkom Gim showed that they have the forwards that are not scared of the physical stuff with their loosies, Keke Morabe, Calla Pienaar and Mingo Pit worth mentioning. Keke Morabe who is u/19 this year has represented South Africa in 2018 and 2019 in the SA Schools teams.
Grey College squad is full of stars with Gert Steyn and Tiaan Fourie representing the SA u/18 7s at the recent Capricorn Sevens in Namibia, while Cornelius Volschenk, Franco Knoetze, Jean Smith, Reagan Isaacs, Juan Olivier, Ricardo Fourie, Sisonke Vumazonke, Sonwabo Sokoyi and Tielman Niewoudt was part of the recent u/18 EPD Camp.
With the amount of talent available at Grey any fool will predict a massive win for them but in 2019 these two teams also played early in the season with Grey winning only 29-0. Grey College should, will and must win but the margin will not be massive with the Bloem boys' bodies that will tell a story of a very physical encounter.
