Glasgow Warriors Beat Hapless Edinburgh Rugby

Glasgow Warriors blew away their hapless visitors, Edinburgh Rugby 33-14 in front of more than 27,000 fans in Round 1 of the 1872 Cup.

For the first hour of the game, Glasgow were in complete control. Defensively they set the tempo with the aggression of their line speed, the discipline with which they influenced the Edinburgh attack. Glasgow were streets ahead. They were missing a long list of stellar names, but it didn't matter. Franco Smith's team had dynamism, speed, intelligence, muscle and class.

Edinburgh, meanwhile, had the look of men who spent their day being spun around in a darkened room.

The rout began early when, after a couple of shots from close-range scrums and lineouts, Glasgow nailed their maul, and managed to maul their way over the Edinburgh try-line! George Horne gets the conversion.

Seven minutes later Huw Jones gives Glasgow the second try of the afternoon. Glasgow managed to find the gap in the Edinburgh defence line and Huw Jones sped his way behind the posts! The conversion was successful again by George Horne. Glasgow led 14-00 after thirteen minutes of play in the first half.

Ten minutes later Glasgow scored a third try, once again from Johnny Matthews! A successful line-out allows them to maul over the try-line. Conversion by George Horne was successful.

Glasgow led 21-00 at the halftime break.

After two minutes of play in the second half, captain Kyle Steyn scored Glasgow's fourth and bonus point try after breaking through the wing to lead 26-00.

With seventeen minutes to play in the second half, Jamie Dobie scored after a wonderful carry and offload from Scott Cummings, George Horne added the extra two points for Glasgow to lead 33-00.

Boan Venter finally got Edinburgh on the scoreboard with ten minutes to play, which he followed up with his second six minutes later to cut Glasgo's lead to 33-14 which was the final score.
