Gerhard Steenekamp Disappointed In Yellow Card

Springbok prop Gerhard Steenekamp said they will not underestimate Wales and there are areas the Boks needed to improve on, to achieve their goal of finishing the tour on a winning note.

“There are a lot of areas we can improve on, and adding to that, there is no such thing as an easy Test match,” said Steenekamp.

“So, we cannot afford to take our foot of the pedal. We need to go out there on Saturday and build on what we have done in the last two weeks.”

Reflecting on the first two weeks of the Castle Lager Outgoing Tour, Steenekamp said: “This is my first November tour (with the Springboks), and it’s been an amazing experience. I’m trying to learn as much as I can every day, and it remains an honour to play with some of the best players in the world."

"For me personally, it still feels like a dream but I'm just trying to take in as much as I can and try to get better every day and try to chase the guys above me. "

The powerful prop expanded on his statement saying: "Every player in the squad's standard is massively high."

"For me, the biggest thing is just to make sure that I can keep up and make sure that the chain is just as strong as its weakest link."

"To make sure you're not the weakest link and try to get to where those players are. Make sure you give something back to the team."

Steenekamp said he was disappointed with his yellow card: "It's never nice to let the team down. But for me personally, it's just to learn out of it and make sure I'm better next week."
