Springbok fullback Warrick Gelant picked up a nasty ACL injury playing for Western Province against the Blue Bulls in last weekend’s Currie Cup.
Gelant's injury could take six to nine months to heal. He will not be able to represent Western Province for the rest of the current Currie Cup competition as well as in the start of the upcoming Pro16 competition.
Gelant was one of the stars in the Western Province after his transfer from the Vodacom Bulls and was widely accepted as a must for the Springboks during the British & Irish Lions tour in July.
Gelant's rehabilitation could enable Gelant to start his return to play early in June. However, it is questionable if two months will be adequate to impress enough to secure his selection for the Springboks.
