Garsfontein 1stXV secured a home NoordVaal Cup final following a 29-20 semi-final win against a game and sometimes dominant Helpmekaar 1stXV.
Garsfontein took an early lead with a try, however, Helpmekaar started dominating on the attack. Brilliant defence by Garsfontein limited Helpmeaar to just one try before Garsfontein took control and scored two great tries during the last fifteen minutes of play to lead 19-05 at the end of the first half. Although Garsfontein opened the scoring with a try from a 5m lineout-maul after just two minutes of play, it was Helpmekaar who dominated early on in the first half. Despite Garsfontein's brilliant defence Helpmekaar scored their first try following wave after wave of pick-up and drives after twenty minutes of play. Garsfontein led 07-05 with fifteen minutes of play.
Garsfontein attacked from the kickoff and scored their second try after twenty-eight minutes of play to extend Garsfontein's lead to 12-05. Garsfontein continued their attacking with individual brilliance from fullback Jason Hugo saw him scoring his second try to extend Garsfontein's lead to 19-05 at the halftime break.
Helpmekaar started like a house on fire and scored their second try after only two minutes of play in the second half. Garsfontein's backline defence struggled with the hard running of Helpmekaar's attack.
Garsfontein struck back from within their own half following some great work by Erasmus to extend their lead to 26-10. Helpmekaar, not to be outdone, struck back almost immediately with a try to reduce Garsfontein's lead to 26-17 with fifteen minutes to play.
A yellow card shown to Garsfontein ignited the fire in Helpmekaar who started to attack with purpose. A converted penalty by Helmekaar reduced Garsfontein's lead to 26-20. Despite Helpmekaar attacking during the last ten minutes the defence by Garsfontein secured a 29-20 win for the home team following a late converted penalty by the hosts.
